Nicolas MAES is appointed Chief Operating Officer of Orano on May 2023.
He began his career in 1999 at the Lafarge group where he held several positions as Engineer in the Cement division, on site and in head office. In 2006,
he was appointed Director of the Cauldon Cement factory in the United Kingdom. In 2009, he came back to the Lafarge headquarters in France as Vice President Marketing for Central Europe & CIS.
In April 2011, he joined the AREVA Group
as Vice President Operations of the Mining Business Group, with operations in Kazakhstan, Niger and Canada, and was a board member of the associated Joint Ventures. In 2012, he also became responsible for the Corporate Social Responsibility of the
Mining Business Group.
He was appointed Senior Executive Vice President of Areva’s Installed Base Business Division (now part of Framatome) on June 1st, 2014, managing the Services business worldwide. From February to October 2018, he led the Framatome Operational Excellence and Digital transformation program. In those two positions, he was a member of Areva Reactors and Services Business Group and then Framatome’s Executive Committee.
In November 2018 he joined Orano. He was appointed Senior Executive Vice President of Orano’s Mining Business Unit and President of Orano Mining SA. He was member of the Orano Executive committee.
Nicolas is a graduate of the Ecole Polytechnique
(Paris) and Ecole Nationale des Ponts et Chaussées (Paris). He is married with 3 children, and a confirmed marathon runner.
